Day 52 – Living the dream

After leaving Mohican (Loudonville, Ohio) we returned to our home area and spent a week at Maumee Bay State park while we had the Jeep set up for towing. We’ve always camped here and love the park especially the bike trails along Lake Erie.

After getting the Jeep all set up we finally, FINALLY, left Ohio and headed into Indiana. whew, seems like it has taken forever dreaming about this and we were actually somewhere new.  Headed to Goshen, Indiana and met up with Howard and Linda Payne of rvddreams. We attended their 2013 fall rally in Franklin, NC and knew that they were in Goshen hosting another rally which gave us the opportunity to get the rig weighed by them.  Well we weighed just fine, all good side to side and underweight so I really didn’t overload this coach.  We had a great time seeing Howard and Linda again and appreciate their friendship and  support.  Jim and Dee Walters joined us and we had a great dinner out.

Well after our meet up’s at the rally we explored Goshen and Elkhart. Elkhart has a great riverwalk and of course we had to stop at the rv museum.

After leaving Goshen we drove south of Indianapolis to Franklin, Ind.  we found a cute little county park and stayed for a bit since it was close to a camping world and we needed to buy a new tow bar. Yep, we had our first mishap and the bar on the front of the jeep snapped when we were going around a corner, bending the tow bar that came with the motorhome.  No damage to the MH, the Jeep, or the bikes so I guess we were lucky.

Leaving there we headed to Dover, TN to Land Between the Lakes and that is where we are still currently at.  We really do love our spot here and our good friend Kyra is about 4 miles away boondocking at one of the neat places to camp.

  1. Kris, it was so great to get a comment from you. When you said we wouldn’t be hearing from you anymore I was sorry. This is wonderful that in spite of such adversity you guys are on the road full timing in less than a year. I am really amazed. Looks like a perfect rig. Just the right size. Would love to know how you found it. Hope you’ll keep in touch. I’ve put you on my blog roll so I can follow your trip on the Natchez Trace. It’s a trip I’ve always wanted to take. Safe travels to you both and Congratulations!!

    • Thanks Sherry, it has been an amazing ride since last Feb. I found this MH on craigslist while Dan was still recovering. It’s a 2005 Monaco gas 35ft and so far it’s been perfect. Good to hear from you, hope our paths cross again soon. Kris

  2. Seems like you’re settling into full-time life on the road nicely. Do you know where you’ll be this winter? A bunch of us will be in the Corpus Christi area in Dec and Jan. We’re heading to Galveston first for November and that’ll be as far east as we’ll head this winter. Safe travels to you and enjoy 🙂

    • Thanks Ingrid, We really are amazed at how wonderful everything has turned out. Just trying to enjoy each day. At this point we are heading to Fla after Mississippi. We are planning to be out west next year so hopefully we can meet up. Have a great time in Tx this winter!!

  3. I am going to enjoy seeing your experiences for the first while on the road. It is scary for us to think about all the things we will encounter when we hit the road next year. We hope to put a lot of our fears behind us by watching what you guys do, not by your mistakes but rather by your accomplishments. I have already noticed a sense of pride in what you have done so far. Please keep sharing all your experiences with us. Safe travelling, and we hope to meet you some day.

    • Glad your following Lorne, I’m sure you guys are excited to go. Trust me the next year will go fast and you’ll be out here in no time. Tough part is the last minute push to get on the road, I was really in overload those last days. We will definitely have to arrange a meet up when we can. Thanks for all the encouraging words, glad your following along. Will try to stop into chat soon. Kris

  4. Kris I was so glad you commented on my blog as you weren’t in my Feedly but you are now. So happy things are working out and you are on the road again. Nice to know about Franklin park…we have family there. Travel safe…..

    • Glad your back, I have loved watching and following your journey. Yes, we really liked Johnson co. park, you will love the coyotes howling in the evening (I did anyway), but there is a army base near and lots of artillery noise on the weekend in the daytime.
